Accused Harasser Questioned: 'However Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female charged with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a voicemail message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and data obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test during the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is among the most covered missing child cases and is still unresolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
One recorded message, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am she? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I have a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the recording stated.
The jury was told that through emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who collated the data, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court heard Mrs Spragg developed a association via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a trip to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated through messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the time leading up to the visit to the village, the county, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their house, the defendant transmitted a communication which said: "We find ourselves sat adjacent to the McCanns' house with our lights out resembling private investigators. I wanted to accomplish this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
