Among Avatar's most adorable MTG cards turns out to be a nasty little force.
the popular card game’s Avatar crossover set won’t get a wider release before the end of the week, yet after prerelease weekends recently, one cheap green card saw a sharp rise in market worth.
Even during previews, Badgermole Cub drew widespread focus. A creature with stats 2/2 priced at G and 1 mana, it features level 1 earthbending (perhaps the most effective among the four bending abilities in the set). The real boon in its design is another power: Whenever mana is generated by tapping a creature, add an additional green mana.
Initially, the card sold below $30. Following the early events, yet, the market price jumped above $45 and one seller offering priced at sixty dollars. What explains premium pricing on this adorable card? Mostly because of the incredible mana acceleration it provides.
When it arrives the battlefield, this creature transforms one land to a creature land granting it earthbend. Combined with its other power, if it stays in play, every earthbent land produces twice the mana — along with any creatures in your control that generate mana.
An ideal partner to combine with is Llanowar Elves, an inexpensive 1/1 that taps to generate G mana. But there are plenty of other mana generation creatures available. Another option is a more expensive alternative a 1/3 creature costing two mana as an alternative.
Deploying terrain, mana-producing creatures, alongside this card, you may quickly play a very big pricey monster into play early in the game. And things just keep spiraling out of control with continued aggression from there.
By incorporating an additional hue with this approach, examples including versatile mana producers are excellent picks which produce any mana color. Another card, a useful enchantment creature allows you to put an additional land per turn plus turns all of your lands so they count as all basics. You can also consider for example the enchantment A Realm Reborn, costing six mana gives all of your permanents the power to produce one mana of any color — including each creature in play.
Badgermole Cub may be OP when it comes to boosting mana production, but what’s the endgame finisher for a deck like this? An often-seen solution is this legendary creature. Its power and toughness match the number of lands you control, plus it turns each creature you own to be Forests in addition to their other types. Essentially, all your creatures on your board may produce double green if used for mana.
Another creature provides a high-cost, powerful body that thrives with many terrain cards (similar to Ashaya, its power and toughness are equal to how many lands you have).
Nissa, Who Shakes the World works perfectly as a staple. Her passive ability makes all Forests generate an additional green mana. (With a Badgermole Cub, that means those lands produce triple green.) Her main ability is essentially a form of land animation, adding counters on a land, which is great though it doesn't stack with earthbend. Her ultimate, though, renders all of your lands indestructible and allows you to search for your remaining Forests in your deck. Once you trigger the ultimate, it’s pretty much game over.
This card is a must-have for any kind of decks using green and Avatar built around Earthbending. When branching into Gruul colors, you can use Bumi. This card features level 4 earthbending, and when damage is dealt to an opponent, land creatures become untapped and can attack again. Even though Bumi is a beloved leader, the cute little Badgermole Cub will surely stay among the top, possibly the sought-after card in the Avatar set.
