Eulogies Continue for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community persist in remembering the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt prepared to express about his deep grief.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began passing more hours together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he cannot recall "one day without joy".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge decided to prevent the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate put a restriction on the files to limit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
Following the tragedy, public individuals expressed different comments.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing provocative claims that were widely condemned by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the detractors recently. Talking on his podcast, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an adviser should have stepped in when the choice to speak on the tragedy was made.
