Jennifer Lawrence States Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to speak out against the Trump presidency, concerned it could intensify unhelpful debate and further divisions across the United States.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, she reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on who people vote for.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting conservative and liberal presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she understood during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I believe she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by the outcome.
“The second term seems distinct,” noted the actress about Trump’s presidency. “Since he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s drama in which she plays a new mother who deals with her mental health in a remote area. Speaking at a media event for the project in the film festival, she spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by stating that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She attempted to refocus frustration about the conflict to leaders rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though Ramsay has denied the story being seen as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the arrival of her new baby, shortly after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a drug called Zurzuvae and I continued it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
Lawrence also discussed of the liberating necessity of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
